Imagination makes the mind the most powerful force.

In 2023, I had the unbelievable opportunity to qualify for the Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) ultra cycling marathon. To earn a spot in this prestigious event, which occurs only once every four years, I had to conquer a series of qualifying rides: 200 km, 300 km, 400 km, and 600 km, each within strict time limits. Completing these challenges granted me the status of a „randonneur,“ allowing me to join 7,000 other cyclists from over 80 countries at the starting line in Paris.
Preparation for this monumental event took over six months, during which I had to push my physical endurance to new heights and expand my mental boundaries. With each qualifying ride, my sense of what was possible grew stronger. Despite all this preparation, the 1,200 km journey with 12,000 meters of elevation gain was an immense challenge. However, the entire experience was made extraordinary by the incredible atmosphere of the event.
Every single passerby along the route cheered us on, motivating us to keep going. Almost every town we passed through felt like a small festival was taking place. We could stop anywhere and be greeted by families offering homemade crêpes with apple compote, baguettes, cakes, and even grilled sausages. The support was so overwhelming that it felt as if the crowd was carrying us to the finish line.
The experience of overcoming my own willpower, of continuing to push forward in moments when I thought it impossible, was truly unique. I am immensely grateful to have lived through this. Of course, I must also mention the thousands of fellow riders with whom I shared the road. It was a joy to occasionally ride together, have a chat, or encourage each other to keep going.
Would I do it again? Now that I know nothing is impossible… never say never.
Paris-Brest-Paris—what an unforgettable adventure!
